Award for Dylan

Its not often in the world of 'brass banding' that you are called up to the senior band and a few weeks later find yourself on stage in a competition, but that is exactly what happened for our young player, Dylan Savage. Dylan has followed in his sister Millie's footsteps, learning the cornet and has graduated from Ammanford Town Junior Band. Last weekend he took the stage playing 3rd Cornet on his debut for the senior band at Newbridge as part of the Miners Entertainment Contest 2015.

This was not all, as Dylan was the youngest player across all the bands on the day and as a result came away with a shield (unfortunately the only award won by the band on the day!). "It is very rewarding for me as Musical Director, to see the young players coming from the Junior band' says Glyn Davies, "It demonstrates a lot of hard work by Dylan and when I look around the stands it is good to know that we as a band have had a hand in the development of so many players.

In total there were five players on the weekend all under 13 and all of whom have come through the bands training system. From all the members and supporters of the band, well done Dylan.

As shown in the following picture, music is for life – Dylan Savage with his young player award award and band legend Gerald Davies
