Invitation to join Band Rehearsal

posted 3 Oct 2017, 11:56 by Jamie Reynolds

Ahead of this Saturday’s West Wales Brass Band Association Festival Contest, Ammanford Town Band will be opening their doors to the community by holding a free open rehearsal in Capel Hendre  Chapel on Friday night at 7:30 (6th October).

The contest on Saturday, the second of three contests in the Welsh League Series, will pit the band against five other bands from across the South Wales area in the first section competition.

The band will be performing “Purcell Variations” by Kenneth Downie, a piece that challenges the band with beautiful lyrical solos as well as difficult technical challenges. Those in attendance on Friday night will be able to hear the band putting the polishing touches to a wonderful piece of music that is sure to get the pulses of both audience and band members racing.

It has already been a good start to the year for the band. The first of the trio of contests saw the band gain an impressive second place back in May and following this success, MD Glyn Davies is keen to build on the early momentum gained by the band.

“After the early success of 2017, I wanted to challenge the band and push them out of their comfort zone and so far, they’ve met the challenge well. It’s a fantastic piece of music and it’s one I hope the audience will enjoy.”

The rehearsal will begin at 7:30pm and the band look forward to welcoming everyone to Capel Hendre on Friday evening.

“We’re a local band and we pride ourselves on being involved in the local community. We enjoy any opportunity to open our doors to the people of the Amman Valley and the surrounding areas.”

The postcode for the chapel is SA18 3LF. See you all on Friday!
