MEMBERS of Ammanford Town Band are singing from the rooftops after scooping top prize at the National Eisteddfod. The gifted music-makers won the Third Section Brass Band competition on Saturday after seeing off the challenge of rivals from Ynyshir and RAF St Athan.

The band’s chosen entertainment program was described by the judges as “an excellent performance with the band showing some real class and excellent tone”.

On top of the group congratulations, a special word of praise goes to 12-year-old Elisabeth Rogers who took centre stage with a fantastic solo in the performance of Paul Lovett Cooper’s Fire in the Blood.

Band secretary Wayne Neal was presented with the trophy on stage at the Maes.
